Françoise continues to make a name for herself… In addition to the paperback edition of her novel Je ne suis pas née pour mourir, Points has also published L’Amazone verte, the biography of Françoise by our friend Élise Thiébaut.

To mark the release of this essential biography, the Société de philosophie de Bordeaux invited Élise Thiébaut to talk about Françoise’s life and struggles. Interviewed by Sandra Mevrel (who had obviously prepared her talk very well), Élise declared from the outset: “Françoise d’Eaubonne is above all a brilliant person”. I’m sure you and I agree that this might have been enough, the essential point was made, but the audience might have found it a little short. Originally published in 1974, Le Féminisme ou la Mort (Feminism or Death), a seminal work, opens up new perspectives for the ecological and feminist struggles, which Françoise tells us are destined to join in the fight against the patriarchy that, in the same movement, subjugates women and destroys the planet.

In this book, whose title is a nod to René Dumont’s L’Utopie ou la Mort, Françoise announces what is now a reality: the destruction of the world by productivism and power. In Caen last November, at the Redécouvrir Françoise d’Eaubonne conference, we had the immense pleasure of discovering the work that Coline and Flora Pilet were building around Françoise d’Eaubonne. When the two sisters, directors and dancers, had immersed themselves in the writer’s intimate notebooks, archived at the IMEC (Institut mémoire de l’édition contemporaine) in Caen, a real encounter had taken place. And from this encounter was born a show, a cross-portrait between Françoise, Coline and Flora, entitled

In early May, our friend Manon Aubel, documentary filmmaker, was interviewed on eu!radio (an independent citizens’ radio station based in Nantes since 2007) about her film Françoise d’Eaubonne – Une épopée écoféministe. Dialogue between Jineolojî and Françoise d’Eaubonne

One of the highlights of the Redécouvrir Françoise d’Eaubonne symposium, held on November 16, 17 and 18, 2022 at the Université de Caen and the Institut Mémoires de l’Édition Contemporaine, was the conference Imaginer le monde demain avec Françoise d’Eaubonne, presented by Vincent, matrimoine dégoupilleur.

“Imagining tomorrow’s world and building ecofeminist coalitions was Françoise’s dream: to see women take power, not to reproduce it in a mirror image of patriarchy, in a system of domination in reverse, but to destroy it, and she wished to see the advent of “non-power to women so that the planet can green up for all”. This requires coalitions on a planetary scale”.

On this occasion, Pauline Langlois and Sarah Marcha from the Centre de Jineolojî in Brussels introduced us to Jineolojî. What is Jineolojî, the “science of women”? The term is made up of the Kurdish word “jin”, meaning woman, which shares its root with the word for life, “jiyan”, and the word “loji”, which comes from the Greek, “logos” meaning discourse, reason, science. The Centre’s website gives a more elaborate presentation, highlighting that :

“Jineolojî aims to bring out social dynamics and engrave them in the spirit of the times. In a revolutionary perspective, it aims to undertake society, without categorization, so that it serves its own dynamics. She believes in the ability of women to freely decide what to do, who to be and how to live in this society.

Pauline Langlois and Sarah Marcha explained the science of women and life developed by the Kurdish women’s movement since 2011, and its connection with Françoise d’Eaubonne.
